- Sherry Dang’s life experiences must be heard! Escaping to the U.S. from Vietnam in 1981, she represents the American Dream come true.
- During the Vietnam conflict, her family was removed from their home, separated from one another and all of their belongings were confiscated. At age 18, Sherry was alone and sent to Cambodia. For fear of death, she decided to escape the country by boat. She was rescued by a U.S. battleship in the mid-Pacific.
- Sherry’s need to become self-sufficient and her determination to work hard and send money to her family is the basis for her success. After marrying, she and her husband owned and operated several profitable businesses in south San Jose. An unsuccessful attempt to develop property resulted in bankruptcy and a move to Santa Cruz in July of 1988.
I N T E R E S T I N G F A C T S
- Sherry began her new career by working at a 7-11 in Live Oak. She is now a U.S. patriot, Republican, and capitalist who owns four 7-11 stores. She is a founding member of the Police Posy and the National Night Out program. In 2000, she was recognized by the California State Assembly as “Woman of the Year in District 28.
